This Privacy Policy explains how KITCHEN AI SYSTEMS LTD, trading as Kitchen AI, collects, uses, stores, shares and protects personal information when you use Kitchen AI.

This Privacy Policy applies to the Kitchen AI website at https://kitchenai.co.uk, the Kitchen AI app website at https://app.kitchenai.co.uk, the Kitchen AI Android app available through Google Play, the Kitchen AI iOS app available through Apple testing or the App Store, and any related Kitchen AI services, forms, emails, app features and support services.

2.2 What Kitchen AI does

Kitchen AI helps users manage food at home, understand what food they have, get meal ideas, buy only what they need and reduce food waste.

Kitchen AI may provide food and kitchen inventory support, meal ideas, shopping basket support, estimated savings from reducing food waste, dietary preferences, meal and nutrition preferences, preferred supermarket settings, points, streaks, subscription discount tiers, AI generated food responses and voice based responses.

Kitchen AI is intended for adults managing household food, shopping and meal planning.

Kitchen AI does not provide medical advice, allergy advice, diagnosis, treatment, clinical guidance, professional nutrition advice, professional dietary advice or guaranteed health outcomes. Any meal suggestions, calorie information, nutrition preference outputs, savings information and AI generated responses are provided for general information and convenience only.

2.3 Information we collect

First name, email and profile information

When you sign up, complete the welcome flow, access the app, register your interest or take part in testing, we may collect your first name and email address. We may also collect saved app preferences, profile settings and communication preferences where these are available in the app.

Onboarding and preference information

Kitchen AI may ask preference based onboarding questions. This may include household size, cooking habits, food preferences, shopping habits, food waste habits, meal preferences, preferred level of recipe detail, household member names or labels entered by the user and other settings chosen by the user.

Dietary preferences

Kitchen AI may allow users to select dietary preferences such as No restrictions, Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten free and Dairy free. We use these preferences to personalise meal suggestions, food recommendations and shopping related features where possible.

Kitchen AI does not provide allergy advice or guarantee that suggestions will be suitable for every dietary need. Users are responsible for checking ingredients, allergens, food labels and suitability before preparing, buying or eating any suggested food or meal.

Meal and nutrition preferences

Kitchen AI may allow users to select meal and nutrition preferences such as lower calorie preference, higher calorie preference, maintain weight, higher protein preference, lower saturated fat preference, lighter meal preference, lower carb, balanced nutrition, more fibre, energy and performance and healthy family meals.

We use these preferences to personalise meal suggestions, meal scores and food recommendations where possible. These features are provided for general food planning and convenience only. They are not medical advice, professional nutrition advice, professional dietary advice, allergy advice, diagnosis, treatment advice or personalised healthcare advice.

Preferred supermarket and shopping preferences

Kitchen AI may allow users to select a preferred supermarket or local store, such as Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl, Waitrose, Farmfoods, SPAR, Nisa, Co op, Iceland, Ocado or Amazon Fresh.

We use this preference to help create shopping baskets, personalise shopping suggestions, improve meal planning and support app features linked to food purchasing or basket creation.

Kitchen AI does not currently share personal shopping intent data, preferred supermarket selections or basket information with supermarkets, retailers or advertising partners. If this changes in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide any required notices or choices before such sharing takes place.

Food, basket, inventory and expiry information

Kitchen AI may collect or store information that users enter, select or generate through the app, including food items, ingredient information, expiry dates, inventory data, shopping list items, basket items, meal suggestions, selected recipes, cooked or used food items, app activity, saved settings, estimated food waste information and estimated savings information.

Approximate calorie information

Kitchen AI may display approximate calorie information for some ingredients, foods or meals. Calorie information is provided for general reference only. It may not always be complete, accurate or suitable for personal health, medical or dietary needs.

Estimated savings information

Kitchen AI may show estimated savings based on reduced food waste, app usage, shopping behaviour or assumptions about using food more efficiently. Estimated savings are for general guidance only. They are not guaranteed financial savings and do not constitute financial advice.

Points, streaks and subscription discount tier information

Kitchen AI may include a points, streak and reward tier system during beta testing. Users may earn points by interacting with app features such as daily login, viewing features, viewing help content, learning about features, meal searches, meal clicks, viewing cooking instructions, batch activity, submitting feedback and opting in to relevant app features.

Kitchen AI may calculate and store total points, daily points, weekly points, point earning activity, streak count, streak multiplier activity, reward tier status, discount eligibility, feedback activity and opt in activity.

Total points are cumulative and do not currently expire. Daily points reset each day. Weekly points are calculated over a rolling seven day window and are used to determine the user's reward tier.

Reward tiers may provide percentage discounts against a future annual Kitchen AI subscription. Points and tiers have no cash value, cannot be withdrawn as money, cannot be transferred to another person and cannot be exchanged for gift cards, cryptocurrency, digital assets or cash equivalent rewards.

Internal intent signals

Kitchen AI may use certain app actions, such as meal searches, basket activity, ingredient activity, feedback or feature usage, to create internal intent signals. These are currently used internally to understand app usage, improve Kitchen AI, support the points system and assess demand. Kitchen AI does not currently share personal intent signals with supermarkets, retailers or advertising partners.

AI input and response information

Kitchen AI may use AI features to provide meal ideas, food suggestions, shopping support, app responses and voice based replies. The types of information that may be processed by AI include food items, shopping information, saved preferences, dietary preferences, meal and nutrition preferences, supermarket preference, household or cooking preferences, onboarding responses, user prompts or requests entered into the app, app context and text used to generate voice responses.

Voice and audio features

Kitchen AI uses ElevenLabs to provide voice based responses or audio features. We may send text or app response content to ElevenLabs so that audio or voice responses can be generated. Kitchen AI does not currently collect or record user voice audio for this purpose unless a voice input feature is added and clearly disclosed to users.

Connected devices and camera features

Kitchen AI may display connected device or camera features such as a Hub, Fridge Camera or Cupboard Camera as coming soon. These features are not currently active. Kitchen AI does not currently collect images, video, camera feeds or connected device data through these features.

If connected device or camera features are added in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy and any relevant app disclosures to explain what information is collected, how it is used, whether any images or video are processed by AI and whether any permissions are required.

Technical and diagnostic information

When you use the website or app, technical and usage information may be collected through our app platform, hosting systems or service providers. This may include IP address, device type, operating system, browser type, app version, pages or screens visited, buttons or features used, time and date of use, crash logs, diagnostic information, network error information and security or performance information.

Support and communication information

If you contact us, request support, submit feedback or ask a question, we may collect your name, email address, message content, support request details, feedback, screenshots or other information you choose to provide.

2.5 Lawful basis for processing

Under UK data protection law, we rely on one or more lawful bases depending on the information and purpose. These may include contract where processing is needed to provide Kitchen AI, consent for optional features or marketing, legitimate interests for improving the app, security and beta testing, and legal obligation where required by law.

2.6 How we share information

We do not sell personal information.

We may share information with trusted service providers who help us operate Kitchen AI. These may include Base44 for app platform, app functionality, hosting, database or AI features, ElevenLabs for voice based responses or audio features, email service providers, analytics or diagnostic providers where used, hosting, security and technical service providers, and professional advisers where needed.

Service providers may only process information for the purposes of providing services to us.

Information about the app, its privacy practices, access instructions and app functionality may be provided to Google Play or Apple as part of app review, policy declarations and store submission requirements.

The main Kitchen AI website at https://kitchenai.co.ukmay use Meta Pixel or similar marketing technologies to help understand website visits, measure advertising performance and improve marketing. Meta Pixel is not currently installed on the Kitchen AI app subdomain at https://app.kitchenai.co.ukor inside the app unless this Privacy Policy is updated to say otherwise.

We may disclose personal information if required by law, regulation, court order, public authority request or where necessary to protect our rights, users, systems or the public.

2.7 AI features

Kitchen AI uses Base44 AI to help generate food related suggestions, meal ideas, shopping support and app responses. Kitchen AI also uses ElevenLabs to provide voice based responses or audio features.

AI generated suggestions may be incomplete, inaccurate or unsuitable for some users. Users should use their own judgement and check ingredients, allergens, food labels, expiry dates and suitability before relying on any suggestion. Kitchen AI does not use AI to provide medical advice, clinical advice, allergy advice, diagnosis, treatment advice or guaranteed health outcomes.

2.8 Cookies and similar technologies

Our website and app may use cookies, pixels, local storage or similar technologies to keep the service working, remember preferences, support app functionality, understand usage, improve performance, support analytics and support marketing where applicable.

The Kitchen AI app and app subdomain at https://app.kitchenai.co.ukmay use local storage, cookies or similar technologies through Base44 to help the app work correctly, remember settings and improve performance.

The main Kitchen AI website at https://kitchenai.co.ukmay use Meta Pixel or similar marketing technologies to help understand website visits, measure advertising performance and improve marketing. Where required, we will ask for consent before using non essential cookies, pixels or marketing technologies.

2.9 International transfers

Some of our service providers may process personal information outside the United Kingdom. Kitchen AI is currently built and operated using Base44 and uses ElevenLabs for voice based responses. These providers may process or store information outside the United Kingdom.

Where personal information is transferred outside the United Kingdom, we take steps designed to protect it in line with applicable data protection laws. This may include using approved legal safeguards, contractual protections or recognised data transfer frameworks where required.

2.10 Data security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against accidental loss, unauthorised access, misuse, alteration or disclosure. These measures may include HTTPS encryption, secure app platform controls, access controls, restricted admin access, monitoring and testing, security measures provided by our service providers and review of suspicious activity.

However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

2.11 Data retention

We keep personal information only for as long as needed for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

  • app settings and preference data is kept while your profile or app use remains active, or until you request deletion
  • dietary preferences and meal and nutrition preferences are kept while your profile or app use remains active, or until you request deletion
  • food, shopping, inventory and app usage data is kept while your profile or app use remains active, or until you request deletion
  • support emails and enquiry records are normally kept for up to twenty four months
  • marketing email records are kept until you unsubscribe or request deletion
  • analytics, crash log and diagnostic data is normally kept for up to twenty four months, unless a shorter period is applied by our service providers
  • points, streak and discount tier records may be kept while your profile remains active and for a reasonable period afterwards where needed for audit, misuse prevention, technical review or dispute handling

When personal information is no longer needed, we will delete it, anonymise it or securely retain it only where we have a lawful reason to do so.

2.12 Account and data deletion

Users may request deletion of their personal information by contacting privacy@kitchenai.co.uk. If Kitchen AI provides an in app account or saved profile, users may also be able to request deletion through the app where this feature is available.

When we delete personal information following a valid request, we will also take reasonable steps to delete associated user data, unless we need to retain limited information for legitimate reasons such as security, fraud prevention, legal obligations, dispute resolution, tax, accounting or compliance.

2.13 Your rights

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights including the right to access your personal information, correct inaccurate personal information, request deletion, restrict processing, object to processing, withdraw consent where we rely on consent, request a copy of your information and complain to a data protection authority.

2.14 Children

Kitchen AI is intended for adults aged eighteen and over. Kitchen AI is not intended for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child without appropriate consent, we will take steps to delete it.

2.15 Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will update the Last updated date at the top of this page. Where changes are significant, we may notify users by email, inside the app, through the website or by other appropriate means.
